Diabetes Awareness

Duration: 45 minutes*

Diabetes is a serious lifelong health condition that occurs when the amount of glucose or sugar in the blood is too high. This course is aimed at people working in the health and social care sector, offering an overview of the condition, the common symptoms, methods of diagnosis, possible treatments and common complications effecting those with diabetes.

Epilepsy Awareness

What does ‘equality’ and ‘diversity’ mean and how it effects the employer or employee? ‘Equality’ is the state of being equal and ‘diversity’ means different or varied in the context of rights and opportunities. Workplace legislations ensure we meet our responsibilities in relation to equality and diversity.

Handling Information in a Care Setting

This course provides an introduction to secure handling and access of sensitive information in care settings. It covers the important role confidentiality plays in developing trusting relationships with the people in your care and the obligations each person has under the legislations in place.

The Introduction to Safe Handling of Medicines course explains key terminology used in handling medicines. It details roles of the people involved in different categories of medication, providing appropriate support to patients, covering infection control and label interpretation.

There are various types of learning difficulties that exhibit many different characteristics. This course offers an overview of the common types and causes of learning disabilities, how people are effected and the stigma attached to learning disabilities.

Mental Capacity Act and Depravation of Liberty Safeguards

Duration: 75 minutes*

This course details the many facets and procedures of the Mental Capacity Act, including who the act effects and procedures to ensure best practices are followed. It also introduces the deprivation of liberty safeguards. These safeguards provide a framework for approving the deprivation of liberty for people who lack the capacity to consent to treatment or care in either a hospital or care home setting.

There are many definitions of mental health. This course explains the difference between mental health and mental illness. It covers various common symptoms of mental illnesses and offers practical advice to working effectively with those affected by these conditions.

 This course defines various terms used in nutrition and hydration in care environments, covers the basics of nutrition, consuming a healthy balanced diet, identifying reasons where vulnerable people suffer from dehydration and identify risks of malnutrition and the steps to deal with such conditions.

Person-Centred Care

Duration: 45 minutes*

What do we mean by Person Centred Care? The term originated in the 1940s and proposed taking a holistic view of service users in care settings by getting to know the person and tailoring care to meet their specific needs. Person centred care is now a key principle in current legislation that must be followed by care professionals working in the UK. The course offers an overview of care plans, daily reports and the importance of obtaining consent.

Positive Handling in Schools

Duration: 100 minutes*

This course offers some examples and statistics highlighting the seriousness and extent of aggressive pupil behaviour. It explains how to identify the various stages of aggression and provide tips to de-escalate such a scenario.

Prevent Duty

Duration: 65 minutes*

The Prevent strategy, published by the Government is part of the overall counter-terrorism strategy. This course introduces an overview of the Government’s Prevent strategy and identifies possible reasons why people convert to extremism. It covers the objectives of the Prevent strategy, how to base actions on a risk based approach, and what to do if you are concerned.

Safeguarding Adults

Duration: 75 minutes*

This course is for anyone who has a duty of care or comes into contact with adults in need of care and support. Aimed at places of work such as domiciliary care, NHS, community centers, prisons or a member of a family, the course sets out the roles and responsibilities everyone must undertake to protect an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect.

Safeguarding Children

Safeguarding Children’, is aimed at anyone who has a duty of care for, or comes into contact with children in their chosen profession. Although most children are brought up in loving, nurturing environments and grow up to lead happy lives, the subject has to be discussed in order to better protect those children that need it most.

This course defines social care, why people choose it as a career and what it’s goals and objectives are. It covers job descriptions, person centred care, understanding code of practices, the basics of government legislation and dealing with conflicts at work.

Your Personal Development

Duration: 35 minutes*

A key part of progression within the adult social care sector is focused on personal development. In a number of sectors, it is even a legal requirement to continue developing skills and knowledge. The course looks at the way standards are set, monitored and regulated for social care organisations and workers in the UK. It covers the codes of practice and legislation, reflecting on your work to ensure continued improvement, communication and feedback.
